Senior Journalist Pranabananda Das' social media post forces Cachar Police to react

Senior Journalist Pranabananda Das yesterday captured how Police officials in uniform were violating road traffic rules by not wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle. He clicked image of the police officials and then uploaded it on social media platforms tagging DC Cachar’s official Facebook page on it.

GP Singh, ADGP, Law and Order, Assam Police on twitter uploaded a copy of the Chalan and tweeted, “Reference Pranabanada Das pictures of a police constable (riding) without a helmet in Silchar – the said constable has been fined by Cachar Police.”

The uploaded copy of the Chalan reads that the constable riding the motorcycle without a helmet was Mahmadur Rahman Laskar and he has been fined Rs 1000 for riding without a helmet.

Pranabananda Das’ post yesterday read, “Spotted this cops riding bike without Helmet a few minutes back at Tarapur Area of Silchar. You can charge a hefty fine to general commuters for not wearing helmets. Although I strongly support this for the safe ridding. Still, being the Law enforcement Unit, if you brazenly violate Law in the full public display then it will send the wrong message to the Society.”

His post added, “Hope, you will also charge the same fine on these cops after investigation. If you find trouble to identify these cops, then I can help you out. Registration No of this bike is: AS 24 A, 4527. Hope you will give proper publicity after penalising them as you did randomly to the General Public. If you find trouble to disseminate information of this, please feel free to contact me. I am ready to Volunteer happily. Teach what you Preach!.”

As it turns out, Assam Police fined and publicised the same.
