Silchar's Biomed procures 60,000 doses of Covishield; Vaccines to be available from tomorrow

The vaccination drive throughout the country is going on in a full swing. In Assam, the total vaccinated number stands at 1,20,23,810 at the time of compiling this report. In Silchar too, state powered vaccination sites, as well as private healthcare facilities, are also inoculating both the Covishield and Covaxin doses to the needy. The Biomed Diagnostic Centre in Silchar has today announced that it is expected to start its Covid vaccination of Covishield starting from Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 11 am every day, including Sundays.

The Biomed Diagnostic Centre has also announced that for vaccination, they’ve successfully purchased 60,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine directly from the manufacturer, which is the Serum Institute of India, Pune (SII). On behalf of the Biomed Diagnostic Centre, Dr Ranabir Paul has said that the consignment of the Covishield vials has already reached Silchar today via flight from Pune. “We have received 60,000 doses of Covishield vaccine which was dispatched today morning from Pune via the Mumbai – Bangalore – Kolkata route. We happen to be the second private healthcare facility in the entire state right after Dibrugarh, to procure vaccines directly from the manufacturers, and not through government, which cost around Rs 38 lakhs”, said Ranabir Paul.

He also said that the vaccine vials will be kept under favourable conditions under strict temperature surrounding so that the vials don’t get affected. He said, “The Gel Pack used had a temperature metre too that can be retrieved to get the information of the temperature maintained during transportation. We also have 24/7 security so that in case the UPS goes off due to some reason, the generator could be used to keep the room temperature of the vials intact. We put extra emphasis on the quality of management and surrounding where the vaccine vials are being kept.” He also said that to order procure Covishield vaccine directly from the manufacturers, one has to place an order of at least 60,000 doses, otherwise only through government one can procure any vaccine in India.

Anybody who’s looking to get vaccinated, be it 1st or 2nd dose, can either book their slots through the Cowin app or could directly walk into the Biomed Diagnostic Centre for on-spot registration for vaccination. The inoculation drive will go on from 11 am to 7 pm every day including Sunday, starting from tomorrow.
