Sushmita Dev off to Delhi; "In a democratic process debate over ticket is normal," says on differences with Jitendra Singh

The National president of Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev was spotted in Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. Today, Congress is expected to declare the list of candidates to contest in the upcoming Assembly Elections. Just before that, Sushmita Dev’s departure from the state raises many questions.

Dev was asked about her decision to leave the state at this stage. She replied, “There are elections in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu too. I have been told that many women in Congress are unhappy with the ticket distribution. I am leaving for Delhi to discuss this with the party’s leadership. As Mahila Congress President, it is my responsibility, to hear their issues.”

About differences with party’s Assam leadership on ticket distribution, Dev said, “In a democratic process, a debate over ticket is normal.” She added, “Whatever the differences are, at the end of the day, it is the high command that decides.”

While she made it clear that there are differences, Dev was upbeat about alliance’s chances in the upcoming elections. “See, Congress will form the government. Whatever, the differences over ticket distribution might be, we will all contest the elections together and secure victory,” she asserted.

It is worth mentioning here that the news of Sushmita Dev’s resignation broke a couple of days back. Sources close to the development said that she was unhappy with the way seats were conceded to the AIUDF. Also, she opposed Rumi Nath’s candidature from Borkhola.

Later, in an interaction with Barak Bulletin, Dev clarified that she never spoke against any particular candidate or individual. It was only the party’s ideology and ethics she spoke about.
