Tarapur boy drowns in Kalain's lake; Friends went to enjoy waterfall

In a tragic turn of affairs, 20-year-old Rohit Saha went missing at the waterfalls in Kalain. The stream under ‘Jhulanpool’ in Kalaicherra area has emerged as a popular destination among the tourists of Silchar. 10-12 friends went to the spot in search of waterfalls. There were many other visitors too.

Tarapur, Shib bari road resident Rohit Saha and his friends decided to take a bath in the stream. The flow of water was high and Saha slipped into the depth. He drowned and went missing. His friends and other visitors got cautioned and did not attempt to rescue him.

By the time the SDRF and NDRF officials were informed, it was too later for them to launch a search and rescue operation. The officials informed that they will get into action tomorrow.

The locals said that the area is witnessing a huge footfall for the last few days. For the most part of 2021, the movement of individuals was banned. As the restrictions got relaxed, the residents started venturing out. But, in the monsoon season, diving into depth could turn out to be fatal. The tourists must not put their lives at risk by going to the river suggest the locals.
