Theatre group Bhabikal conducts week-long acting workshop for kids

Theatre group Bhabikal, in association with Kala Academy, Silchar, organised its annual “Children Theatre Workshop” recently. A group of 30 children had enrolled for the workshop and were been trained under the abled guidance of the camp director and popular theatre personality Shantanu Paul and other artists of the theatre group. The one-week workshop that kickstarted on July 8 was held at Park Road’s Sangeet Vidyalay.

Murali Basa, a professor from the Department of Performing Arts, Assam University was also the guest faculty of the workshop.

Speaking to BarakBulletin.com, Shantanu Paul shared his experience of heading the interactive workshop, “Our biggest achievement from this workshop is that the children, who participated in this workshop, have been coming to us every day, without being forced by parents. The classes used to start at five in the evening daily but the children were so excited that they would start dropping in by 3 or 3:30 pm only”.

Paul further added, “We don’t look for perfection in the students, we look for happiness, simplicity, purity and effortlessness in their way of learning.”

The workshop ended on 14 July, and yesterday (17 July) was its closing ceremony.

Speaking about it, Shantanu Paul said, “I am extremely thankful to all the people in Silchar who have been associated with us. They help us to carry out this initiative every year. I am also thankful to all the parents who have trusted us and sent their kids for the classes. They helped us in successfully completing this workshop.”

It is worth mentioning that Bhabikal is organising this worksop since 2006 and it is like an annual fest in the theatre family.
