Tiger attack in Barak Valley, 10 wounded so far

Some say it is a wild tiger, the popular opinion is it is a fast cheetah, on the other hand, there are a few who think the animal which is keeping people awake at night is a scared jackal. Whatever it is, it has already attacked 10 human beings, many cows and buffaloes and now is a nightmare for the people of Dholai.

All 10 wounded so far belong to Didarkhush gaon panchayat located in the east of Dholai. The residents of Harinabosti village have suffered the most so far. According to them, the wild animal’s attack was first witnessed a week back when their domesticated animals returned home with scars and blood stains. But, since Thursday night, the animal started attacking human beings too. A school goer, a retired teacher, and three others are now admitted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

This attack on the residents came as a shock for the forest and environment department too. Minister-forest and environment, the government of Assam Parimal Suklabaidya himself took stock of situations and sent a team to catch the animal. The Rangers reached the spot with a cage in order to catch the animal. They also tied a goat inside the cage as bait.

The rangers assured that they will be able to trap the animal in the next couple of days, however, they also requested the locals not to kill the animal once it is trapped. The residents were given a few crackers by the forest officials and they were asked to burst them if they hear footsteps of the animal at night.

If it is a cheetah or a jackal or some other wild animal, it remains to be seen, for now, there is only one animal inside the cage – a harmless goat waiting for the carnivore to attack.
