Devastating news has emerged from Sonai’s Kaptanpur in Cachar, where a young man drowned and another went missing due to the recent floods while they were swimming in the flood waters. This is the second such incident of drowning in the flood waters in just one day, the first being reported from Borkhola. The incident has caused a stir in the local community, highlighting the severe dangers posed by the floodwaters.
The deceased has been identified as Suraj Rabidas, 28, of Narsinghpur. He and another youth, Ripon Rabidas, were swimming near their homes when they suddenly went missing. NDRF and the local police rushed to the spot upon hearing the news.
In a search and rescue operation by the locals, before the NDRF could reach the spot, Suraj’s body was found. Later the recovered body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) by the Police for further procedures including a post mortem.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police arrived at the scene to assist in the search operations. While Suraj’s body has been recovered, efforts are still underway to locate Ripon, who remains missing. The NDRF continues to search the water for any signs of the missing youth.
This tragic incident underscores the perilous conditions created by the floods and has left the local community in shock and mourning. When the flood situation started in the district, the DC Cacahr urged the people to stay away from the water bodies until the flood water receded. This heartbreaking news highlights the need to spread such awareness to the rural areas of Cachar where the situation of the flooding is severe.
