Vaccine 2nd dose "SMS" confusion; Cachar administration blames the technical failure

Dear XX YYYY, You have successfully been vaccinated with your 2nd Dose with COVISHIELD on 08-04-2021 at 05:13 PM. You may download your vaccination Certificate from – https://www.cowin.gov.in/ – CoWIN.

Hundreds of people in the Cachar district received the SMS yesterday on their mobile phones. This message has left the recipients with shock and astonishment. Almost all of them did not visit any vaccination centre, let alone getting the second jab. Some of them even downloaded the vaccination certificate by feeding the details.

“I was at my office at 5:13 pm. I received the SMS at around 6:30 pm. After clicking the link and feeding all the details, I managed to download the vaccine certificate. Now the point is, I did not even visit the centre as I was asked to do so after 45 days. But on the 28th day, I received the SMS and as I can see the certificate has been issued. So, will they give me the second dose after 45 days?” is what is a question that is worrying a senior citizen.

“It has happened in a minuscle percentage of people,” replied the office of District Immunization Officer, Cachar. They suggested that the person who received the SMS must immediately visit the vaccination centre, furnish the certificate and get the second jab.

“This message that the first dose beneficiaries are getting is due to a technical error,” informed District Immunization Officer, Dr. Sumona Naiding while speaking with Barak Bulletin. She added, “We are yet to determine the source of the error. The message is not being sent by us in Cachar. Also, people in other districts of the state have received the same message without getting the second jab,” she added.

While the Cachar administration has passed the parcel to state-level authorities, the hassle that these confusing messages must be addressed. After all, senior citizens do not need one more harassment.
