"What will happen to the 19 lakhs who were left out of NRC!", Jitendra Singh questions GOVERNMENT
The Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra was commenced today by All India Congress Committee’s (AICC’s) General Secretary Jitendra Singh from Dholai’s Baghabazar located along the Assam-Mizoram border. Headed by the Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Borah, the Yatra will cover almost all constituencies of Barak Valley by walking a distance a 165 kms and end at the Bangladesh border located in Karimganj district. The Yatra will go on till 12 February in Barak Valley. APCC President Bhupen Borah will walk around 12 kms everyday with fellow Congress workers in the Yatra. The letter written by Rahul Gandhi will be handed over to the public by the Congress leadership during the Yatra.
Today’s Yatra started from Dholai’s Baghabazar and after traveling a total of 10 kms on the Mizoram-Silchar National Highway concluded at Dholai’s Manipuri Market. Before that, Congress leaders of the state as well as the district gave speeches in an open meeting.
Speaking to reporters Jitendra Singh said, “During this Yatra Congress party workers will visit everyone’s house and hand over Rahul Gandhi’s letter to them. He wrote about unemployment, inflation and religious polarisation in his letter. As far as Barak is concerned, the Valley has received step motherly treatment from the current BJP led government. JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Narendra Modi himself came to Barak Valley, talked big in their speeches about Paper Mill, employment, flood problem. They made promises worth crores of rupees but there is zero work on the ground level. Another issue is NRC. BJP is in power at the centre as well as the state. What will happen to the 19 lakhs who were left out of NRC? The govt. is silent regarding it. People of Barak Valley are very angry at the government.”
Interacting with reporters, North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha told, “The Yatra was inaugurated ceremonially on 26th January but from today onwards we are undertaking a 15 day long programme. We have started the Yatra from Dholai located along the Assam-Mizoram border because you all know that the government failed to protect our land, school and property. The government which talks of protecting Jati, Mati, Bheti gave away 7 kms of land to Mizoram. Even the 990 No. Dholakhal LP School which had the CM’s as well as the Education Minister’s picture is now part of Mizoram. That is why we started the Yatra from Mizoram border and it will conclude at Bangladesh border covering all constituencies of Barak Valley. The main aim of this Yatra is to bring up the discrimination against people of Barak Valley, injustice meted to the youths of this region incase of jobs.
Dey Purkayastha added, “We will talk with the people during this Yatra to discuss and solve their problems as well as communicate a few words to them. There is anger inside people. We have so many issues – NRC problem, biometric problem, Aadhar Card problem, detention camp problem, unemployment problem. They took votes of Bengalis and will now decide the definition of who is a Khilonjia. So this Yatra has been started to give a befitting reply to the government and their politics of deceiving Bengalis.”
