Wild Pig attacks men in Barak Valley; 1 dead, 1 critical

In an astonishing incident, a 53-year-old lost his life in a tea garden in Medly Village located in Patherkandi Karimganj. As per available information, at around 2:00 PM today a wild pig or boar attacked shepherds who were rearing their cows. Near the rubber section of Sephinjuri Bheel Tea Estate, Patherkandi, the shepherds first saw the wild boar and immediately started running around.

An eyewitness said that the boar got irked by human presence and launched an attack on them. While others managed to escape, 53-year-old Ramdhani Gour tumbled and the boar reached him with its tooth. Gour was attacked multiple times by the boar and he started bleeding excessively. 30-year-old, Ashwini Balmik Das, another shepherd who was present there, rushed to save Gour and he too got attacked.

The eyewitnesses said that the boar eventually ran towards the jungle but by then Gour was dead on the spot and Das was left bleeding. Police along with officials from the forest department rushed to the spot. They recovered Gour’s body and sent it to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post mortem while Das was sent for treatment.

Local MLA, Krishnendu Paul too reached the spot and met the deceased’s family. He expressed his condolences and donated Rs 10,000 to the family. At the same time, he urged the forest department to look into the matter.
