Woman allegedly raped in Karimganj by an exorcist

At a time when the noble COVID pandemic has gripped the entire world, a sensational case of alleged rape of a woman at Karimganj’s Ratabari constituency has shook the entire district.

It is learnt that the accused Kamal Uddin, who practices exorcism (Jhand Phook), lured a woman to relive her sufferings if she visits him.

On Monday, according to the victim, when she visited him at his shop, he offered her a cup of tea allegedly laced with sedatives. The woman claims that she became unconscious immediately after having the tea.

It was only after around 10 hours did she regain senses, and realised that Kamal Uddin had forced himself upon her. She managed to escape from there, and even raised an alarm. The accused however, ran away from the backdoor of his shop fearing arrest.

Mayank Kumar, SP Karimganj said that a case has been filed by the victim at Ratabari Police station and police is already investigating the matter. “Allegations have been made of rape. Accused is absconding and we are trying to nab him. Further details will only get clear after we arrest and interrogate him.” SP said.

Right wing groups, meanwhile staged demonstration outside the Kamal Uddin’s shop on Monday night demanding urgent arrest and stringent punishment for him.

This is the second such incident at Karimganj district after two women from Tripura were allegedly gang-raped by five men when they were returning after meeting their ailing mother at a Silchar Hospital.
