Cachar DC, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty participate in door-to-door garbage collection drive

MLA Dipayan Chakraborty and Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli have appealed to the citizens not to dispose wastes on roadside or drains in Silchar town. A door-to-door garbage collection drive has been started on Sunday to make the city garbage-free.

On this occasion, MLA Chakraborty and the DC Jalli went from house to house in wards 6 and 7 under Silchar Municipal Board from Ukilpatti in the city on Sunday and distributed two buckets colored red and green buckets for waste management. Citizens were asked to separate liquid waste in the red bucket and solid waste in the green bucket.

As part of management, this waste will be collected and disposed off in a scientific manner through non-governmental voluntary organisations working under the municipality.

Accompanied by Municipal Executive Officer JR Lalsim, DC Jalli visited all the houses in wards 6 and 7 and gave a strong message to the citizens and shopkeepers that strict action would be taken against those who dump their waste in drains, sidewalks and roads. In these cases, the shopkeeper’s trade license will also be cancelled and will not be renewed.

Besides, the Deputy Commissioner also asked the executive officer of the municipality to take steps to ensure the removal of garbage on the sidewalks and drains while getting a new trade license.

DC Jalli said that adequate lighting would be provided in response to the demand of the citizens to keep the drain free from garbage, in addition to that she further stated that the vegetable market of Faatak bazar will be shifted to the abandoned land of the municipality on Water Works Road in the city.

The Public Works Department will construct a vegetable market building with the funding of the APART ( Assam Agri Business and Rural Transformation) Project ,as a result, waste management in Faatak bazar vegetable market will be easier, said DC.
