Omicron Scare: Karimganj DC announces new rules and regulations

The Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman District Disaster Management Authority of Karimganj on Thursday issued an order with rules and regulations keeping in view the ongoing pandemic and the emergent “Omicron” variant. The order has expressed concerns for non-vaccinated patients and those who’re partially vaccinated. To contain and manage the spread of Omicron variants, some restrictions were imposed on the town from 6:00AM on 27th January until further order.

The restrictions include:

1. All those adult persons who have not yet taken both the doses of COVID vaccination should remain at their residences and should not visit any of the Public Places/Market/Function/Public Transport/Religious Places etc.

2. In public places with large gatherings like Sabai Mandi, Public Transport, Parks, Religious Places, Malls, Shopping Complexes, Hat Barar, Local Market, Hotels, Bars, Restaurants, Cinema Halls, Gym and Fitness Centres and other similar places only fully vaccinated (second dose) adult persons or those who are not due for second dose as per health protocol are to be allowed.

3. All Government/Board/Corporation Offices/Education Institutions located in Karimganj to allow only fully vaccinated (second dose) Adult Persons (including their employees) or those who are not due for second dose as per health protocol.

4. All Banks to allow only fully vaccinated (second dose) Adult Persons (including their employees) or those who are not due for second dose as per health protocol. Instruction to those banks may be given, accordingly.

The order further said, strict vigil on the mentioned measures will be done by the concerned Circle Officers. The Circle Officers will randomly verify and ensure strict adherence of the restrictions in their respective jurisdictions. Any violators of those measures will be booked under the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 besides legal action under Section 186 of the Indian Penal Code and other legal actions as applicable.

The order has also issued permissions to the District Disaster Management Authority, Magistrate, Police, Enforcement wing of the District Transport Office to fine Rs. 1000 to any individual not wearing a face mask or spitting in public places. The district has reported 64 fresh COVID positive cases on 27th January as per the Media Bulletin published by National Health Mission Assam yesterday.
