With rise in cases, administration converts Borkhola Degree College to COVID care unit

Yesterday, Cachar reported 98 cases registering the highest one day spike since the outbreak of the virus. The rising cases in the district have already stretched the medical infrastructure. The state has made it clear that it is “reluctant” in allowing home treatment to COVID positive patients.

In order to be in a position to accommodate more patients, Cachar Administration has converted Borkhola Model Degree College to a COVID Care Unit.

The Joint director of health services, Cachar informed that the newly prepared COVID Care Unit will accommodate “300 beds.” “We will assign trained medical professionals to take care of the patients admitted there,” said the Join Director.

He added that the asymptomatic COVID positive patients will be admitted to the COVID Care Cente in Borkhola. “A couple of days back, a team led by the deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli visited the College to take stock of the preparedness. After checking everything and considering the current scenario, we have decided that we will start admitting patients there from today onwards,” added the joint director.

Currently, COVID patients are being treated at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Silchar Civil Hospital, Army Hospital, Foreigners Tribunal office in Bahadurpur, Rongpur and Chibitabichia Model Hospital. Now the administration has added Borkhola Model Degree College to the fold.
