Karimganj Police Arrests Anju Rabidas For Raping A Girl's Dead Body In The Morgue Of Civil Hospital

At Bazaricherra of Karimganj District, the Police registered a case of unnatural death of a girl. The family’s Ramadan festivities were cut short when they found their daughter dead. According to Karimganj Police’s preliminary investigation, the girl died by suicide.

The body was recovered and following an inquest by the magistrate, sent to the morgue of Karimganj Civil Hospital. By the time the body reached the morgue, it was dark and the Postmortem was delayed to the following morning.

When the doctor started conducting the postmortem the next day, he noticed there were bite marks on the private parts of the body of the deceased. The doctor even found pieces of evidence suggesting a sexual assault. The same was reported to the Karimganj Police.

“This came as a surprise to us as the inquest was done by the magistrate and the evidence collected at the spot contradicted the findings of the doctor. We had initially ruled out sexual assault based on the pieces of evidence we collected,” informed Superintendent of Police, Karimganj, Partha Protim Das. Adding, “We initiated another investigation immediately and found out that an individual identified as Anju Rabidas, a 38-year-old employed as a sweeper in the Civil Hospital entered the morgue. We detained him as a suspect and during the interrogation, he confessed his crime.”

SP Das confirmed that Anju Rabidas has been arrested and cases have been registered against him. Meanwhile, the dead body of the deceased has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for forensics. What remains to be unearthed is if this was the first such case of crime committed by Anju Rabidas or if he is habituated to raping the corpses of women in the morgue? SP Das and his team are now preparing a case diary that can stand the scrutiny of the law and will certainly investigate his criminal mindset and history, if any.

The gruesome incident highlights the inhuman mindset of sexual assailants in society.
