Silchar's Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya collapses while on duty; young doctor declared brought dead

What comes as a shocking development, Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya, who was on duty as a medical officer at Kalinagar PHC is no more. Rongpur, Silchar’s resident, Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya was a student of Silchar Medical College’s 2014-15 batch.

As per available information, he started vomiting suddenly last night and was rushed to Green Heals Hospital in Meherpur. The management of Green Heals hospital informed that he was brought dead to the hospital. The treating doctors have diagnosed a possibility of stroke, however, the management has referred the patient to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

There is a rumour spreading thick and fast, that Dr. Habib was infected by the COVID19 virus. However, the Green Heals hospital management has ruled it out. “We can confirm that he did not test positive for COVID19. The exact cause of death, however, can only be confirmed by the SMCH authority,” said the spokesperson of the private hospital.

Meanwhile, the Students’ Union 2019 -20, SMCH has released a statement. It read, “With a very heavy heart we would like to inform all of you that one of our dearest comrades and senior has left us today. Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya of batch 2014-2015 was one of us and it’s utterly unfortunate that he left us so early.”

The statement added, “Hence we would like each of us to assemble in front of OPD at 6:00 pm today to pay our condolences to Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya.”

Junior Doctors’ Association has also issued a statement. “The JDA SMCH is deeply saddened with the news of the sudden demise of our colleague Dr. Habib Ahmed Barbhuiya of batch 2014-15. He was special and will be missed by many. His death has left us with an indelible impact. We request all our Doctors and students to assemble near ltc at 6.00 pm today to pay our condolences to the dearly departed.”

According to his peers, he was declared dead in morning today. “His mortal remains have been kept in the morgue of Silchar Medical College and Hospital. As the post mortem cannot be performed today, it will be done early tomorrow,” informed Dr. Habib’s batchmate.

The sudden death of the young doctor has hit the valley as a wave of shock.
