Badri Feeder In Cachar Goes Down: Polling Officials Rasie Concerns Amidst Power Cut

In a setback for the residents of Lakhipur Subdivision, a sudden power outage struck today, throwing several polling stations into disarray just a day before the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections in Assam.

The outage, attributed to the malfunctioning of the Badri Feeder, has left polling officials scrambling to carry out their pre-election tasks amidst scorching weather conditions. With essential electronic equipment and communication systems relying on electricity, the outage has posed significant challenges for election preparations.

One of the Polling Official at Arkatipur Government Senior Basic School said they’ve been here since this afternoon, and there’s been no electricity since then. It’s causing a lot of problems. If it keeps going like this, the voting place could be in a vulnerable state because the CC TV wouldn’t be working.

Bappi Das, the AGM of the area, shed light on the situation, attributing the issue to stagnant water possibly causing the feeder failure. Despite the challenging circumstances, Das assured that efforts are underway to rectify the problem swiftly.

“I myself am part of the team stationed at an interior location,” stated Das. “Due to the stagnant water, our access to the affected area requires swimming. However, we are committed to resolving the issue promptly.”

Das further expressed optimism, stating that the issue is expected to be resolved within the next hour and a half, alleviating concerns regarding the impact on election preparations and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.

As residents and polling officials anxiously await the restoration of electricity amidst the power outage, this incident sheds light on the pervasive infrastructure challenges encountered by rural communities across the state and the nation. While power outages are unfortunately commonplace in these areas, the timing of such an outage, just ahead of crucial elections, aggravates the challenges faced. The AGM has offered assurances that efforts are underway to rectify the issue promptly, potentially alleviating the immediate concerns of those affected.
