Cachar: Massive Road Collapse Baffles Residents Near India-Bangladesh Border

Road connectivity is crucial in every community. However, many roads in Cachar and the Barak Valley are in terrible condition. In such a situation, a shocking turn of events has baffled everyone in Katigorah, Hazartila area near the India-Bangladesh border. A road in this border area suddenly started to show cracks on Wednesday, and according to local sources, within a few minutes, the cracks turned deadly and engulfed the entire road. The road was beside the Barak River, and due to massive damage on the riverside, the road was washed away.

This massive damage occurred to the road near the Barak River in the border area between India and Bangladesh, affecting nearly 200 meters of the road. The incident, which happened suddenly on Wednesday morning, caused panic among locals. The collapse included nearby trees and even electrical poles falling into the river, disrupting electricity services in nearby villages. This isn’t the first time such a collapse has happened; similar incidents occurred a few years earlier as well.

This particular road holds significant importance in this locality. It is the primary road used by Border Security as well as locals. This incident has disrupted the movements of everyone affected by it, and the fear of more damage is still lingering in their minds. According to reports, millions of rupees were being spent to ensure the safety of this road and prevent such disasters.

Despite 7 crore and 54 lakhs of rupees being spent on prevention efforts, by the Water Resource Department, the situation hasn’t improved. Locals blame poor-quality work for the recurring collapses. Even though authorities have been informed about the issue, proper action hasn’t been taken. The recent collapse has heightened concerns among locals, who fear that if the situation doesn’t improve, people’s safety and connectivity will be at risk.

Locals have urged the authorities to help them out and protect the road. They asked the authorities to put barricades on either side of the road or take any other relevant measures to ensure the safety of the road.

Another local resident has informed that the cracks are also expanding and heading towards houses nearby the roads, highlighting the danger of this incident. They sought the intervention of authorities to help them out and save the road and the people who are being affected by it.

The repeated collapses have fueled suspicions of corruption and negligence in the construction work. Locals demand a thorough investigation to identify the root cause of the problem and ensure accountability. Until then, they remain apprehensive about the safety of their surroundings and the reliability of the roads.h
