Coal Scam: 6 trucks detained in last 72 hours; “The miscreants are using new techniques,” Cachar SP

Cachar Police’s drive against the illegal transportation of coal continues. In the last 72 hours, Cachar Police has detained seven trucks from various parts of the district. From Tarapur, Digarkhal, Katigorah, Gumrah, and other gateways to the town, trucks have been intercepted and the drivers, handymen have been arrested.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur informed that the miscreants are using new techniques to transport coal illegally. “Instead of loading the whole truck with coal, the miscreants are now filling up sacks and loading them along with other items like cement, vegetables among other things. This is being done to confuse and trick the Police. Acting on specific information, we have intercepted the trucks and arrested the drivers and their handymen,” informed SP, Ramandeep Kaur.

Earlier, the mafias running the coal scam were loading trucks with coal. Those trucks were plying with challans of cement or rice and when the Police intercepted them and checked the loaded items and found a mismatch, the consignments were confiscated.

But now, if the trucks have challans of rice, cement or vegetable, the trucks are loaded with some of the challenged items while the rest of the space is occupied by coal packed in sacks.

SP Ramandeep Kaur said that the drive against coal is in accordance with the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s direction.
