HSLC Result: Hailakandi Performs Best In Barak Valley, Cachar Concerns With Third Lowest Pass In State

The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) declared the HSLC examination results on April 20, through their official website. The examination for Class 10 of the state board for the year 2024 was held on February 16 and was concluded on March 4. This year a total of 4,19,078 students sat for the examination and the pass percentage was 75.7%. 6,392 students secured distinction marks (85% and above) and 20,552 secured star marks (75% – 84.99%). Arunang Doloi of Jorhat secured the first rank with a whopping total of 593 marks out of 600.

In a press release on the HSLC Examination, 2024 published by SEBA today, it was mentioned that the examination results were declared within 45 days of completion of the exam. The pass percentage of the board examination has improved from 72.69 per cent to 75.7 per cent this year. The pass percentage for male students is 77.3 and for female students, it’s 74.4. It is worth mentioning here that 10 transgender students also sat for the examination and 8 passed the exam.

Chirang, Nalbari and Baksha have emerged among the best-performing districts based on the students’ performance. Taking a closer look at the performance of the three districts of the valley, in Cachar out of 24,258 who appeared in the exam, only 15,329 passed the exam. The pass percentage of the district has come down to 63.1 per cent, the third lowest in the state. In Karimganj, 16,468 sat for the exam and 11,266 cleared it, taking the pass percentage to 68.4 per cent. Of the 9,448 students who appeared from the Hailakandi district, 7,362 passed making their pass per cent highest in Barak Valley. 2,861 students secured first division in this district taking their pass per cent to 77.9.

The state’s total pass percentage is increasing, from 56.4 per cent in 2022 to 72.6 in 2023 and 75.7 this year. Changing the examination pattern has brought significant change and improvement in the pass percentage. Of the 4,19,078 who appeared in the examination 3,17,242 passed, with 1,05,873 students securing the First Division, 1,50,745 students securing the Second and 60,624 students securing the Third Division.
