213 positive in Cachar; Kalain, Tarapur reporting high cases; Panchayat road resident died with COVID at SMCH

Cachar district has reported 213 Covid positive cases till 7:00 pm on Saturday. The number could cross 250, informed the District Health Department as many reports are still awaited. Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert informed that Kalain, Tarapur, and other congested areas in Silchar town are reporting a high number of COVID cases. Considering the situation, he said, the administration will intensify targeted survelliance.

On the other hand, Karimganj registered the highest ever spike in a single day with the detection of 112 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,069. Of the 112 positive cases detected on Saturday, 106 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and six under RT-PCR.

The district has altogether 470 active COVID-19 cases while 15 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Friday. 1,294 swab samples were collected on Saturday, informed the Karimganj District Administration.

In Silchar Medical College and Hospital, for the first time in the second wave, more patients were discharged than admitted. Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) informed that nine new patients took admission to the COVID block while 11 were discharged.

Dr. Gupta added that currently there are 172 Covid patients in the hospital and out of them, 38 are in ICU. 17 have been placed under ventilator while 52 are on Oxygen support.

Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiya, a 60-year-old resident of Panchayat Road in Cachar district has been declared dead today and is the only patient to have succumbed at the COVID block of the hospital. The Medical bulletin informed that he is diabetic and hypertensive on medications and was presented with fever, cough, and Shortness of Breath for four days.

“He was diagnosed to be a case of Covid pneumonia. He presented with oxygen saturation in blood 63 % on oxygen and was initially admitted in the ward and later shifted to ICU. He had to be put on Non Invasive Ventilator on being unable to maintain oxygen and had to be intubated today and put on a mechanical ventilator. He expired today at 6.00 pm,” stated the Medical Bulletin..
