Doctors in SMCH perform two caesarean deliveries; "One mother COVID confirmed, another suspected" Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh

Doctors in the gynaecology department of Silchar Medical College and Hospital dealt with two extremely critical cases today. Two emergency Caesarean deliveries were done today at SMCH. While one mother was confirmed to be positive for COVID, the other’s husband is admitted to the COVID block.

A lady named Rabia, whose husband had tested positive and is admitted to the COVID block has undergone her third C-section delivery today. “As per protocol, her swab sample was collected but the doctors had to operate before getting the reports,” informed Prosenjit Ghosh, Deputy Superintendent Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Ghosh added, “Since this was the third C-section delivery it was considered as a high-risk case and that is why the doctors did not wait for the COVID reports. She delivered a baby girl and both of them are doing fine.”

The second C-section delivery was done for the first-time mother, Priya who had certain complications. “Apart from the medical complications, she had also tested positive for COVID19. Because of her complications, the doctors had to perform the C-section and she delivered a healthy baby boy,” informed Ghosh.

The team of doctors and paramedical staff that performed both the operations are Dr Y Roy,  Dr R Das,  Dr R Paul, Ms Aikom and Sanjay Ree. Dr. Ghosh informed that neonatal ICU wasn’t necessary for either of the babies and they both cried normally after birth.

He added that as per the protocol, swab samples have been collected from both the babies and they will be tested for COVID19.
