20 armed dacoits loot a house in Sonai; stab an old man

Peace in “Island of peace” is in real danger. A group of 20 dacoits armed with guns and daggers looted a house in Sonai area last night. At about 12:30 AM, masked individuals broke the iron grill of a residence and entered a room. A lady was sleeping with her child when a man put her at gunpoint and asked for gold. She started screaming and that is when another individual from the group asked her to shut up or they will cut her and her child into pieces.

The dacoits got the key of the cupboard and looted Rs 3 lakhs odd cash and a few gold jewelry. The hostage lady’s brother-in-law tried to stop the dacoits but he too was shown the gun. Their old father got out of his room and intervened, that is when the dacoits stabbed him in his stomach and attacked him with iron rods. The man has multiple stitches in his lower abdomen while his hand was left fractured. Currently, he is being treated at Silchar Medical College and Hospital where he is admitted in the orthopedic department.

DSP Cachar Police, A J Baruah is investigating the matter. He and his team reached the spot with a sniffing dog, “We are yet to arrest anybody in relation to the incident occurred last night. What we have learned so far from the victims and others we have interacted with is that a group of 15 to 20 armed dacoits looted about Rs 3 lakh cash and some jewelry late last night. One man got injured and he is currently admitted in SMCH,” he shared.

“When they all came in and started showing guns, I was only thinking about my daughter who was sleeping next to me. She woke up and started screaming while those inhuman people kept showing me guns and daggers. I draped her in a blanket and slept over her to protect her from the dacoits,” says the woman, whose room was looted.

The entire family is traumatized and the neighbourhood is in a state of shock while the old father is hospitalised.

Please note: Since this is a case of dacoity and the investigation is going on, we have intentionally refrained from revealing the names and address of the victims.
