Burmese Supari and Cigarettes worth around Rs 40 lakh seized by Cachar Police in separate operations Dholai and Rangirkhari

Based on a secret tip-off officer in charge of Rangirkhari Police Station, KN Nath and his team launched an operation in National Highway road last night. The team managed to identify four trucks AS 19 C 3809, AS 11 BC 3052, AS 11 CC 1346, AS 01 JC 7511. Drivers of all four trucks were missing.

As the Police officials started searching the trucks, they found there is a secret cabinet at the base of the truck guarded by sophisticated nuts and bolts. After they opened the chamber of secrets, they found huge quantities of Burmese betel nuts.

OC Nath said, “We suspect the drivers escaped after having a sense of a Police raid. Since the driver escaped from the spot, it becomes clear that the goods were being transported without proper documents.”

According to Police sources, around 92 bags containing 3,680 kilograms of Burmese Supari was seized last night from National Highway, Silchar. The Police suspect that the vehicle was on its way to Guwahati. The Burmese betel nuts are sold for Rs 500 in the market and going by that value, the consignment costs Rs 18,40,000.

In another such successful operation, Officer In Charge of Dholai, Himangshi Nath and her team managed to nab a huge quantity of Burmese Cigarette. In the NutonBazar area, the Police spotted a top model Toyota Innova (AS 28 C 9259) driving suspiciously. Nath and her team chased it down and 44 cartons and seven bags full of Burmese Cigerrate worth around Rs 16 lakh were seized. The Police detained the driver of the vehicle. Identified as Rakib Hussain, the driver is a resident of Silchar’s Meherpur area.

OC Dholai H Nath also informed that the Police nabbed a Bolero Pickup truck (AS 28 C 9250) from the Dholai area. The truck was carrying 30 sacks of Burmese Supari consisting of 1200 KG of the importer nuts. This consignment costs around Rs 6 lakh.

In one night, two formations within the Cachar Police managed to seize items worth Rs 40 lakh and it is being considered as a huge success for the new officer in charge.
