Cachar District Administration felicitates Mareya Begum for making it to the Indian Air Force as Flying Officer

Cachar girl Mareya Begum has created history for the Barak Valley region by getting selected as the Flying Officer at the prestigious Indian Air Force (IAF). To achieve this feat, she had to clear the AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) first and then SSB (Services Selection Board) interviews, after which her confirmation came to join as the Flying Officer. Today, the Cachar District Administration has felicitated Mareya Begum for this rare achievement of hers at the Silchar Study Centre at Gandhi Bhawan, Silchar.

On behalf of the Cachar District Administration, Mareya was felicitated by the Executive Officer of the Silchar Municipal Board (SMB), Jessica Rose Lalsim. After getting felicitated, she expressed her journey to becoming a Flying Officer at the IAF with some 30 aspiring students at the Silchar Study Centre. She also advised the young students of the centre on how to prepare and tackle various issues while preparing for such a competitive examination.

While talking to Barak Bulletin, Jessica Rose Lalsim said that this achievement of hers will go a long way to inspire others as well from this valley to aspire for such a glorious career choice. “Of course it’s a matter of utmost pride that a girl from our district has made it as the Flying Officer at the prestigious Indian Air Force. The way she has cleared all the stages of the examination one after another, and came out with flying colours, is quite inspirational for anybody. Every success has a different story behind it, each with a unique struggle of its own. We were fortunate enough to get her to share her story of going through all those obstacles before coming out victorious in front of around 30 students at the Silchar Study Centre, who will also benefit a lot from learning her own individual journey towards success”, said the Executive Officer of the SMB.

Mareya Begum will be joining as the Flying Officer at the IAF in the upcoming September. With Mareya being the first woman ever to make it to the Indian Air Force from Barak Valley, this feat of hers will surely ignite future aspirants from this valley to achieve such glorious heights in the coming years as well.
