Coronavirus outbreak: Silchar DSA ground, Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium to be converted into makeshift hospitals

Considering the continuous swelling of Coronavirus infected patients’s tally in the nation and also with two positive cases in Northeast- Mizoram and Manipur, the Assam government is taking drastic steps to prepare itself for the fight, although till now no corona case has been reported in the state.

Himanta Biswa Sharma on Thursday announced that Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium will be converted into a quarantine site with a capacity of 1000 beds, which will be made within 5-6 days.

Resonating with that, Cachar district has also initiated a plan, under which Silchar DSA ground will be converted into a makeshift hospital, on a ‘temporary basis’. The makeshift hospital will be constructed with the help of Army/Assam Rifles and district administration has already written to Assam Rifles for the hospital preparedness.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Barnali Sharma, has also constituted a committee for monitoring of the overall process which will comprise of ADC Sumit Sattawan(IAS), D.O Soil Conservation SS Chaliha, PWD Executive Engineer Ganesh Ch. Bora and Dy Director Town and Country Planning Silchar BK Sharma.

It can be mentioned here that the administration has already declared Silchar Medical College and Hospital as Corona Hospital where exclusively only corona patients will be treated.
