Kangkanjyoti Saikia conferred President's Police Medal for distinguished service, DIG Southern Range Silchar sole recipient from Assam

The country will celebrate the 74th Republic Day on Thursday. The President’s Police Medal Award has been announced on the eve of Republic Day. Several police officers and jawans of Assam have been conferred the President’s Medal in various categories.

South Assam Deputy Inspector General Kangkanjyoti Saikia has been conferred the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service. It maybe mentioned that he is the sole recipient of President’s Police Medal for distinguished service from Assam.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin the top cop expressed his gratitude to the committee for appreciating his efforts by bestowing with the coveted medal.

“In my long service career, this is definitely one of the landmark moments. But now the responsibility towards duty increases manifold,” said the DIG sharing his reaction with Barak Bulletin.

Apart from this, 14 police officers of Assam have been conferred Police Medals for meritorious service. They are Digant Barah (Police Commissioner of Guwahati), Mojibur Rahman (Superintendent of Police, Guwahati), Dr. Rosie Kalita (Superintendent of Police, Chief Minister’s Supervision Cell, Guwahati), Anukul Malakar (Inspector, UB, Guwahati), Sikari Engti (CT(AB) Karbi Anglong), Dilip Kalita (CT(UB) Tinsukia), Mujibur Rahman Choudhury (Lance Naik, 6th APBn, Kathal), Manik Kangsa Banik (Naik, 6th APBn, Kathal), Sumeswar Mudoi (CT(UB), Lakhimpur), Sunil Phukon (CT(UB), Tinsukia), Junmoni Tamuli (CT(UB), Tinsukia), Ananda Ronghang (Lance Naik, Karbi Anglong), Ritu Mani Bairagi (ASI clerk, 23rd AP(IR)Bn, Siloni, Karbi Anglong) and Subhas Rabha (CT(AB), 1st APTFBn, Dakurbhita).

A total of 901 Police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of Republic Day, 2023. President’s Police Medal for Distinguish Service has been awarded to 93 police personnel while Police Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to 668 police personnel in the nation.

The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded for long and distinguished service to individuals who have served at least 25 years in the State/Central police or in security organisations. Individual must be prior recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and must have held that medal for at least six years.

The Police Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded to the personnel of police and security organisations who have completed a minimum service of 18 years. The medal is awarded to personnel for their commendable work whether operational or administrative.
