Pritam Das to lead Silchar district team at Nuruddin Trophy; Samik Das vice captain

After the trials featuring 49 players, Silchar District Sports Association has announced the senior district squad for the first two matches of Nuruddin Trophy. Silchar team will play their initial leg at the Karimganj DSA’s cricket ground.

Nuruddin Trophy is one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments in Assam. Senior district teams of the states tussle it out among themselves for the championship. Cachar Express Pritam Das, will lead Silchar senior district cricket team. Mr. consistent in the last two seasons, Samik Das has been selected as the vice captain. Man in sublime form, Abhishek Thakuri is also in the squad. Apart from the three, Amit Yadav who had a brilliant season in Silchar with both bat and ball has found a spot in the team. The selectors have backed the under-16 skipper, youngster Abhishek Deb and selected him in the squad.

Rajib Das is the chief coach of the team and Himadri Sekhar Das has been named as the Coach of the senior district cricket team. The team will play their first match against Lakhipur on April 20, at Karimganj DSA. Second match is against Dima Hasao on April 24. The two-day matches on ordinary Karimganj pitches can pose a challenge to the Silchar team who are otherwise used to quality cricket turfs.

Men in form from the under 19 Silchar team that was in contention to play the final of JK Baruah trophy, wicket keeper batter, Aman Singh, all rounder, Subhajit Paul have also found place in the squad. Singh was declared emerging player at Barak Premier League and Paul was the man of the match of the only match that he played in the prestigious tournament.

The announced squad: Pritam Das (C), Samik Das (VC), Abhishek Thakuri (WK), Rahul Singh, Amit Yadav, Joydeep Singh, Pradip Sarkar, Parvez Musaraf, Roshon Topno (WK), Saurav Kumar, Shekarjyoti Barman, Abhishek Deb, Parikshit Banik, Aman Singh (WK), Sanjib Dutta. Chief Coach: Rajib Das, Coach: Himadri Sekhar Das, Manager: Biplab Sharma Purkayastha.
