Silchar Polls: 1,551 Polling Stations, 7 LACs, and 7,172 Officials Ensure Smooth Election Process

Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency heads to the polls on April 26, with the administration designating 1,551 polling stations for voters to exercise their rights. Notably, 210 of these stations will be exclusively staffed by female officials.

With a total of 13,51,496 eligible voters, Silchar sees a nearly equal distribution between male and female voters, with 6,76,331 and 6,75,141 respectively, while 24 electorates identify as transgender or other genders.

Silchar Lok Sabha constituency spans 7 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs). Officials, including presiding officers and polling personnel, departed yesterday for their designated polling stations across Dholai, Lakhipur, and Katigorah, amounting to 610 polling stations in total.

This year, the ISBT in Ram Nagar serves as the stronghold for storing election materials. Since early morning, election officials have been gathering at the ISBT, procuring Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other necessary accessories for a smooth conduct of the election.

A workforce of 7,172 Government employees has been assigned diverse election duties. To ensure the maintenance of law and order, a deployment comprising Assam Police, CRPF, ITBP, and 20 units of BSF has been instituted.
