Thursday Night Storm Injures 9 Family Members in Cachar's Udharbond; 6 Admitted in SMCH

In a devastating turn of events, Cachar’s Udharbond area has been hit by a powerful storm causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. The strom struck on Thursday night at around 8 o’clock, uprooting trees and causing significant injuries to nine individuals. Among the injured are four-month-old Om Kurmi, eight-month-old Madhav Kurmi, and others ranging from 8 years to 72 years old.

Subsequently, the injured were rushed to Tikal- Shalganga Model Hospital for primary medical care. However, due to the severity of the situation, six of them were transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Those transferred include Sonali (37), Shubha (28), Soma (27), Manilal (72), Madhav (8 month), and Om Kurmi (4 month). Meanwhile, 4 years old Shruti Kurmi, 8 years old Sumit Kurmi and 12 year old Sushanta Kurmi are being treated at Tikal-Shalganga Model Hospital

Upon receiving the news, prominent figures such as Nabarun Chakraborty, the president of Udharbond Mandal BJP, along with General Secretary Umashankar Bhattacharya, Mrinal Bhattacharya, and Raj Ray Choudhury, took initiative to commence medical treatment. Additionally, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mihir Kanti Shome visited the hospital to ensure necessary medical arrangements for the injured.

MLA Mihir Kanti Shome coordinated with the hospital’s superintendent via phone to oversee the medical treatment of the injured. As of the latest update, MLA Mihir Kanti Som has also visited the Silchar Medical College Hospital.

As of yesterday night, the situation remained critical as more individuals were feared to be injured, with concerns of further damage due to the storm. Power outages have also been reported across the entire area, creating a tense and alarming atmosphere.

Ambulances, along with relief teams, were being dispatched to the affected areas, including Shalganga Khaspur and Tikal, to ensure prompt evacuation and medical attention for any additional casualties.
