7.5 lakh snatched from a Policeman in Silchar, woman lost 1.40 Lakh in Hailakandi

Snatchers had a free ride in Barak Valley yesterday. On the same day, a man lost Rs 7.5 lakh cash in Silchar while a woman’s Rs 1.40 lakh was snatched in Hailakandi by miscreants. The identical incidences in two districts of Barak Valley on the same day is an alarming sign.

Employed in Cachar Police, Najuk Uddin Laksar had applied for a personal loan in State Bank Of India’s New Silchar Branch. His loan got sanctioned and today Rs 7.5 lakh was disbursed by the bank. With Rs 7.5 lakh in a bag Najul Uddin Laksar was heading towards Silchar Sadar Thana and that is when in Radhamadhab Road area, two miscreants hit his motorbike from behind and immediately snatched his bag full of cash.

“I was going for my duty and all of a sudden a Pulsar motorcycle had come from behind and crashed into my bike. I fell down and that is when they snatched my bag and ran away,” says Laskar, resident of Auliya Bazar area.

In a similar incident in Hailakandi a woman who was travelling with her son in an e-rickshaw got attacked by miscreants. Wife of Himangshu Sinha, Prasoonbala Malakar went to the State Of India’s Hailakandi branch and withdrew Rs I.40 lakh from her account. When her e-rickshaw was about to pass the Shani Temple next to Old LIC office in Lala Road, a couple of miscreants riding on a motorcycle snatched her bag and ran away.

Respective Police officials have started investigating both the cases, but no arrests have been made yet. These two cases of mid-day snatching exposed big loopholes in the security of Barak Valley.
