Environment Enthusiast Trikal Chakraborty rescues 11.5-foot, 6.5-kg King Cobra in Cachar

Trikal Chakraborty, an environment enthusiast and snake rescuer, recently led a team in rescuing a giant King Cobra that was stuck inside a house in the Allenpur area of Cachar district for three days. The challenging three-hour rescue operation was successful, and the snake was safely released back into its natural habitat with the help of locals.

“Locals weren’t able to reach me via phone. But today when they managed to inform me and that is when we rushed to the spot. Worth mentioning here that this was a very complicated rescue and it took us longer than regular rescue operations,” informed Chakraborty.

Chakrabarty emphasised the importance of snake conservation and said, “Awareness initiatives have helped people understand the value of snakes and their role in the ecosystem.” He was particularly impressed with the locals’ willingness to rescue the King Cobra rather than kill it, which is often the norm in rural areas.

King Cobras are a protected species under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act due to the threat of habitat loss and poaching for their skin and organs, which are used in traditional medicine. Chakrabarty stressed the importance of protecting these magnificent creatures and preserving their natural habitat.
