Himanta Biswa Sarma on a special flight to Silchar; Likely to meet Kabindra Purkayastha and other rebels

Infighting in BJP before the elections has become public. Kabindra Purkayastha had called for a press conference and accused MP Rajdeep Roy of conspiring against his son Kanad Purkayastha. On the other hand, Silchar MLA, Dilip Paul has collected the nomination form to contest in the upcoming elections as an independent candidate. Kishore Nath in Borkhola is testing waters. Their supporters have also started campaigning against the respective candidates.

Amidst all the infighting, NEDA Chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to board a special chartered flight and reach Silchar. According to airport sources the flight is scheduled to land at around 4:00 pm today. Sources in BJP informed that there will be a meeting at a hall in Silchar where Sarma will address the party workers. He will stay tonight.

Sources also revealed that Sarma will visit Kabindra Purkayastha’s residence in Silchar in order to meet the party’s “Markdarshak”. “This meeting is primarily to get the house in order,” said a source in BJP. Sarma will also meet his former Congress-colleague Rajdeep Goala and discuss campaign strategy in Lakhipur where Kaushik Rai will contest as a candidate.

When our correspondent reached out to former union minister Kabindra Purkayastha and asked about a meeting with NEDA Chairman, the veteran replied, “I am not aware of any such meeting. So far, I have not got any calls from anyone.”

Sources in Dilip Paul’s office also said that there is no meeting with Himanta Biswa Sarma in Paul’s calendar.

Apart from constituencies in Cachar, North Karimganj also happens to be a problem for Sarma to solve. Former MLA, Mishon Ranjan Das’ supporters have been campaigning against the party’s candidate fielded to contest in the upcoming elections. Das has been snubbed to give a ticket to Dr. Manash Das another former Congressman who switched sides to join the BJP.

How Sarma, who is considered as the Chanakya of Northeast, brings everyone together before the elections remains to be seen.
