Infamous dacoit Raju Barbhuiya of Cachar surrenders to Police; Hands over one gun, four rounds of ammunition

Infamous dacoit Raju Barbhuiya from Salchapra, who is notorious for countless robberies for the last few years, has finally decided to give up arms and surrender to the police authority. After successfully evading the eyes of the law for the last 3-4 years, terrorizing the people of Salchapra area under the Algapur assembly constituency, Raju Barbhuiya on Sunday surrendered his arms and ammunition at the Salchapra police station at 11:20 am, under the supervision of Silchar Sadar Police Station OC Bipul Bora.

Raju Barbhuiya is a resident of the Kuriyabasti area under the Burnie Bridge GP of the Algapur constituency. For the last few years, Raju has made quite a name for himself as a dangerous dacoit who has terrorized the people of the Salchapra region and nearby with his frequent heists. According to OC Bipul Bora, several cases are still pending against Raju for his past misdeeds of theft and robbery, and for the first time, he’ll face those charges.

“We have been on the hunt for Raju Barbhuiya of Salchapra for years. A few days back, he tried contacting us through their Gram Panchayat that he wants to surrender himself to the police after years of successfully evading them. At around 11:20 am on Sunday, September 5, Raju Barbhuiya surrendered himself at the Salchapra Police station and also handed over a single barrel gun, four rounds of ammunition to the police authority while surrendering”, said Silchar Sadar OC Bipul Bora.

While talking to the media, Raju Barbhuiya said that he regrets his past misdeeds and has grown weary of doing robberies for years. “I’m ready to surrender arms and ammunition to the authority so that I can give up being a dacoit and start living like a normal citizen in the society. I regret all the past misdeeds that I’ve done for the past 3-4 years, and now I’m ready to make a comeback to start living with my family”, said Raju Barbhuiya.

The Police officers also asserted that it’s a good step that Raju has decided to move on from his earlier criminal life and congratulated him for this decision to come back to mainstream life.
