Message of Peace on Bioya Dashami: Juloos-e-Muhammadi distributed cold drinks to thirsty crowds

Silchar witnessed a spectacle of peaceful coexistence on the auspicious occasion of Bijoya Dashami when the members of Juloos-e-Mohammadi Celebration Committee provided drinking water and cold drinks among the crowds near Nahata point. Bioyaja Dashami marks the end of Durga Puja. It is generally celebrated with a procession rally attended by thousands of people accompanied by Dj boxes, laser light shows, and the idol of Durga that is to be immersed.

When the visuals and news of communal violence from Bangladesh are doing the rounds on social media, a sight like this on the street of Silchar clearly tells a different story of itself. Both Bengali Hindus and Muslims share the heritage, history, and demography Of Barak valley. Religious Festivals of both communities are also celebrated in Silchar without any significant communal tensions. Initiatives taken by the Juloos-e-Mohammadi will strengthen the mutual respect and understanding of the similarity and differences of each other’s cultures.

“We want to convey our greetings and well wishes to the people of Assam, Cachar and entire Barak valley on the holy occasion of Bijaya Dashami; we are here to convey the message of our unity, we believe in ‘Religion is individual, personal but festivals are collective, for all’”” told Ancher Hussain Barlaskar, the president of the organizing committee.

“We have decided to provide drinking water and cold drinks to the devotees participating in Visarjan. We are very pleased to be a part of the occasion. I want to thank the entire Muslim community who today participated with the Juloos-e-Mohamadi committee,” he added.
