Rajdeep Roy, Kripanath Mallah ‘ModiFies’ Barak Valley

If 2014 was a Modi wave then 2019 is certainly a TsuNamo, which has completely changed the political map of the country and especially Barak Valley. In 2014, riding against the wave, Congress’ Sushmita Dev defeated BJP’s Kabindra Purkayastha by 35,241 votes. In 2019, despite AIUDF and CPIM not fielding candidates, Rajdeep Roy managed to win the one-on-one faceoff by more than 65,000 votes.

Speaking to Barak Bulletin a day before the results, Rajdeep Roy said he that he is confident that BJP will do well in both the seats in Barak Valley. He went on to say that he will win by bigger margin than what Sushmita Dev managed in 2014. His assesment turns out to be true and he has doubled Dev’s margin of victory.

Rajdeep Roy expressed his gratitude to the mass. He posted on his official Facebook page, “I dedicate my victory to all the people of Silchar, our party Karyakartas, district leadership. I am grateful to Sh. Sarbananda Sonwal ji, Sh. Himanta Biswa Sarma ji and Sh. Ranjeet Dass ji for all their support that I received in the run upto election.”

Kripanath Mallah too thanked the people of Hailakandi and Karimganj for electing him as member of Parliament from a constituency that many thought would go to incumbent AIUDF candidate Radheshyam Biswas. Biswas had won the seat by a huge margin of more than one lakh votes in 2014.

If Amit Shah is the Chanakya of BJP then Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Amit Shah of Northeast. On his own, he managed to turn around the fortunes of BJP and NDA in the Northeast, sweeping Barak Valley is no mean feat.

Sarma tweeted, “My heartiest congratulations to Rajdeep Roy for winning Silchar Lok Sabha Parliamentary seat by over 64000 votes against sitting MP Sushmita Dev. Gratitude to people of SIlchar for your faith in us.”

He also congratulated Kripanath Mallah, “Deeply indebted to people of Barak Valley for showering your affection. Along with #Silchar, we have also won LS seat of #Karimganj. Congratulations Kripanath Mallah, Dy Speaker, Assam Assembly, who defeated Seating MP Radheshyam Biswas of AIUDF.”
